Blood Heir by Ilona Andrews
Aurelia Ryder #1
Kate Daniels World #10.5
An all-new novel set in the Kate Daniels World and featuring Julie Lennart-Olsen, Kate and Curran's ward.
Atlanta was always a dangerous city. Now, as waves of magic and technology compete for supremacy, it’s a place caught in a slow apocalypse, where monsters spawn among the crumbling skyscrapers and supernatural factions struggle for power and survival.
Eight years ago, Julie Lennart left Atlanta to find out who she was. Now she’s back with a new face, a new magic, and a new name—Aurelia Ryder—drawn by the urgent need to protect the family she left behind. An ancient power is stalking her adopted mother, Kate Daniels, an enemy unlike any other, and a string of horrifying murders is its opening gambit.
If Aurelia’s true identity is discovered, those closest to her will die. So her plan is simple: get in, solve the murders, prevent the prophecy from being fulfilled, and get out without being recognized. She expected danger, but she never anticipated that the only man she'd ever loved could threaten everything.
One small misstep could lead to disaster. But for Aurelia, facing disaster is easy; it’s relationships that are hard.

Blood Heir is part of the Kate Daniels world and follows our favorite little trouble maker, Julie, as she sets out on her own adventures! I would HIGHLY recommend having read the Kate Daniels series, as well as the Kate Daniels novella, Magic Stars, before reading this one. Technically, you can read this one without having read those....but it's much more enjoyable and understandable if you have your Kate Daniels background.
I am shook and upset and happy all at the same time! I love the Kate Daniels series and I love Julie. This cannot be the end though! I feel very unfulfilled. I need more Julie and Derek and Ascanio!
This book takes place 8 years after the final battle and mainly focused on reintroducing Julie as she is now, Aurelia Ryder, and their new big bad enemy, Moloch. Julie's magic, scent, and appearance have changed during her battles with Moloch and now no one recognizes her. After hearing a prophecy from the Witch Oracle that Moloch is going to meet Kate, and Kate is going to die, Julie returns to Atlanta to begin the battle to save her family. One problem though, she can’t let Kate see her, or Kate dies.
It was a lot of necessary rebuilding of characters and relationships but I just wish with all my heart there was more of the story AFTER Derek finally admitted to recognizing her. It felt like they finally got that connection back, and then boom, story over. Like I said, my main feelings upon finishing this book is that of being unfulfilled. I needed more from this. Don't get me wrong, it was AMAZING. I just loved it so much, and I love these characters so much, that it just wasn't enough.
While I was reading it, it felt like a lot happened, and it did. But I’m a very character driven reader and it burned my soul that Julie didn’t have really any meaningful interactions with anyone. I need more and I need it now please.
Ascanio is growing up and I really hope we get to see more of his story in the next Aurelia Ryder books as well. His and Julie's relationship was always so funny and I would love to see his reaction when he figures out it's her. I love his and Derek's interactions too, and I want to see their issues resolved as well.
Overall, I need the next book immediately please.
