In the thrilling conclusion to the Dark Elements series, JLA brings it on home with this installment! Check out my reviews of the first two books, White Hot Kiss and Stone Cold Touch.
Some loves will last ’til your dying breath
Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.
Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.
Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…
UGH! What a fantastic final book! This wrapped up everything in a cute little bow full of spicy tension and mushy love.
Layla reminds me a lot of Poppy in this book (although technically Layla came first)! She's badass, takes no shit, and can take care of herself. She sacrifices for those she loves, and is always willing to do whatever it takes to protect her friends.
Roth is such a great character. He's unapologetically selfish, which we don't see a lot, while also being completely selfless when it comes to making sure Layla is happy and safe. Seeing the depths to which they will go to protect each other... it's just amazing.
The love triangle got a little more convoluted and I quite enjoyed the drama! I did really appreciate that JLA did not make Layla choose by making one of them the "bad guy" and it was instead based solely on Layla's feelings. Love it!
I have yet to read a JLA book I haven't loved, but this one has definitely moved up on my favorites list. And Roth is definitely on my book boyfriends of all time list.
I can't wait to get my hands on The Harbinger series (starting with Storm and Fury) so I can read more about Zayne and his story!
Let me know if you've read this story!
